(You might want to print this guide to work with...use additional paper if necessary.)PRE- ARRANGEMENT INTERVIEW GUIDE
It is more important that you ask yourself the following questions than it is to write the answers out, but your written answers will help your family and the funeral director evaluate and arrange a meaningful funeral ceremony. If you choose to write out responses to these questions, use as much additional paper as you find necessary.
Why does it seem important to you to pre-plan your funeral at this time?
Who do you think will be most distressed by your death? (Consider both friends and family.)
In your opinion, what could the funeral director do that would be the most helpful for those who will be most distressed by your death?
Have you talked with the important people in your life about your death?
If so, what sort of things seemed important to talk about?
If not . . . if you were to have the opportunity to talk about your death, what sort of things would you like to talk about?
"It will definitely help others accept your death if they see your body." How do you feel about this statement?
Is there anything about your personal convictions (religious or non-religious) that you want to be expressed after your death?
Are there any organizations that you are (or have been) particularly active in?
If so, what kind of club activities did you enjoy the most?
Is there any orgainzation oriented person who should be asked to participate in your funeral ceremony?
Have you ever seen anything done at a funeral that you found objectionable and that we need to know about?
Conversely, have you ever seen anything done at a funeral that you would definitely want to have done at your funeral?
Helping others remember you the way they knew you in life will help them accept your death. Throwing convention aside, if you could have anything done at your funeral that would help them remember you the way they know you, what would it be?
