BURIAL CLOTHING

Whenever a decedent's body is to be viewed in a casket, it is necessary that the family provide or purchase appropriate clothing. Any type of clothing that the family provides is usually acceptible. If the clothing of the decedent is not available or appropriate, the funeral home can provide burial clothing.

All items of clothing are used, including underclothing and hose. Shoes are not usually used.

Although personal preference may dictate alternatives, the following list is typical:

For a gentleman:

Undershirt

Underpants

Sox

Trousers

Shirt (casual or a dress shirt and necktie)

Jacket

For a lady:

Slip

Underwear

Stockings

Dress, Suit, Pants Suit or Negligee

In addition to the clothing we often suggest accessories that were normally worn by the decedent, such as:

Glasses (if normally worn)

Jewelry (optional)

Watch, Tie Tack or Tie Bar. Lapel Pin and/or a Ring

Watch, Ear Rings, Pin, Necklace, Bracelet and/or a Ring

Any jewelry provided to us may either be buried or returned to the family.

When the Ocean Grove Memorial Home is asked to provide clothing for a gentleman, we can provide a suit of clothes, dress shirt and necktie and/or a set of underclothing...we do not provide any accessories.

When the Ocean Grove Memorial Home is asked to provide clothing for a lady, we can provide a long dress with long sleeves or a negligee type dress and/or a set of underclothing...we do not provide any accessories.

Cost for a full set of clothing for either a gentleman or a lady is in the area of $135.00. (2002)
