DEATHS IN 2007

GEORGE N. SEUFFERT, 89, of ASBURY PARK, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He had worked for Sears for more than 25 years until retiring in 1980. Mr. Seuffert attended the weekly worship at the Asbury Tower where he also had been a member of the bocce team and volunteered with many different programs. Born in Jersey City, he had lived there before coming to Asbury Park in 1950. George was a truly gentle man who will be missed by his many friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria C. Schagelin Seuffert in 1993 and by his sister Gertrude Oest. Surviving are a son, Russell G. Seuffert and his wife Carol of Spring Lake Heights. Friends were invited to call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, January 26th at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A funeral service was held at 8:00 PM. WILLIAM J. TACKE, 52, of OCEAN GROVE, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at The King Manor Care Center, Neptune. Mr. Tacke was the supervising director and cofounder of Model Team LLC, Ocean Grove. He began his career as an international fashion model in L.A., where he was the last male model hand-picked by fashion mogul Wilhelmina. As a model, he worked in Madrid, Milan, Tokyo and Zurich, and across the U.S. Mr. Tacke worked for such clients as Calvin Klein, Commes des Garcons, Anna Sui, J. Crew, Lanvin, Macy's, Halston, Gottex and Givenchy. His extensive career also included magazine covers, national TV commercials, appearances on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Laverne and Shirley," "Happy Days," National commercial print campaigns, and the ABC Sports national and international "Golden Runner" symbol of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Mr. Tacke, along with John Merriman had directed and coproduced hundreds of shows in New York and across the U.S. for various designers and clients such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Weight Watchers, Subaru, Kinney Shoes and Dick Clark productions. He will be missed by his beloved dogs, Astrid, Buzz, Steffi, Carmen and Robin. He was looking forward to meeting his dogs Ingrid and Elsa over the Rainbow Bridge. Surviving are his life partner of 22 years, John Merriman, his brother, Robert and his wife Brenda of Council Bluffs, IA, three sisters, Barbara Tacke of Council Bluffs, IA, Beth Black and her husband, Philip of Omaha, NE and Burdine Osborn and her husband Gary of Council Bluffs, IA and his nieces and nephews, Stuart and Jeremy Black, Kelsey and Connor Osborn and Brittany and Bailey Tacke. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 805 Pine Street, Asbury Park on Tuesday, January 30th at 10:00 AM. Interment was in Calvary Cemetary, Omaha, Nebraska. Friends were invited to call from 5-8 PM on Monday at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. JEANETTE R. WOELNER KEGLER,80, of OCEAN GROVE died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Manor-by-the-Sea in Ocean Grove where she had lived for a year. A life long resident of Monroe, Michigan, Jeanette moved to New Jersey in December of 2005. She was born February 18, 1926 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Walter and Lena Luft Woelmer. After her graduation from Monroe High School Jeanette went on to work for the Detroit Edison Company, The Citizen Budget Company and the Monroe County Library System. On February 28, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church Jeanette married Harold “Buzz” Kegler, sadly he preceded her in death on January 31, 1998. Jeanette was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of The Monroe Thrift Shop Association, Mobile Meals, Mercy Memorial Hospital Guild and the Monroe Golf and Country Club. Jeanette is survived by three loving children; Janice M. and her husband Bill Knight of Ocean Grove, NJ, Donald L. Kegler and his wife Sally of Hilo, HI and Brian W. Kegler and his wife Joan of San Diego, CA. three cherished grandchildren and three cherished great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Jeanette was preceded in death by a sister. A funeral service was held on Saturday at 11:30 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe, MI under the direction of the Bacarella Funeral Home, Monroe. Rev. Gary Tryggestad and Rev. Ross William Ulrich pastors of Zion Lutheran Church officiated. Private interment services were held at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, MI. NELLIE FLORENCE FREEMAN, 89, of BRADLEY BEACH, entered her eternal home on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Nellie was a lifelong resident of Bradley Beach and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Bradley Beach where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church council. She loved the Lord and always strived to serve Him throughout her life. “Aunt Nellie” will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Nellie was a graduate of Bradley Beach Elementary School and Asbury Park High School. She was employed for many years in secretarial positions with A.G. Rogers of Neptune, as a personal secretary to the president of the Steinbach Company of Asbury Park, and 20 years with the payroll department of the Neptune Township Board of Education, from where she retired in 1986. Nellie later worked part time on the office staff at Francis Asbury Manor in Ocean Grove. She also sold beach badges in Bradley Beach for eight consecutive summers. Nellie is survived by her twin sister and brother in law, Betty and Lyman Graham of Bradley Beach, by her brother and sister in law, Fred and Ruth Freeman of Albuquerque, NM, by her niece, Bonnie Graham of Ocean Grove, by her nephews Dale Graham of Delray Beach, FL, and Chuck Freeman and his wife, Lynn, of Jamestown, NM.
A funeral service were held on Monday, Feb. 26th at 11:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, with interment following at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. ELEANOR A. VILLANOVA, 88, of OCEAN GROVE, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Villanova was born in NYC and moved to Kearny where she lived for 75 years before moving to Ocean Grove four years ago. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend to many...everyone who knew her loved her and she will be missed by all. Eleanor was a life member and past president of the Deborah Heart Foundation - Golden Heart Chapter. For the many years she lived in Kearny, Eleanor was an active part in that community serving in many offices of the Arlington Woman's Club, she was a past president of the Roosevelt School PTA and a member of the St. Cecilia Seniors. She was a former communicant of St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in Kearny and after moving to Ocean Grove she attended the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Villanova, in 1992 and by her son, Kenneth. Surviving are her daughter, Rosemarie C. Villanova and her dogs, Nikki, and Darien, of Bradley Beach, a sister, Marie Drabin, of North Arlington, NJ, her granddaughter, Angela, and her husband, Steve Kuehner, of Jacksonville, Florida, a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Villanova, of Pompano Beach Florida, nephews Gregg and his wife, Kathy Drabin, of Marlton NJ, Michael, and his wife Diane Drabin, of Connecticut and a niece, Mary Ellen DiMeo, of No. Arlington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach on Monday, March 5 at 10:00 AM. RUTH L. SCHWARTZ, 97, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She had worked as a sales clerk for Ruth’s Stationery Store, Ocean Grove, until retiring. Miss Schwartz was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and the Gov. William Livingston Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. Born in Spring Lake Heights, she had lived in Ocean Grove all her life. She was predeceased by her three sisters Edna Rea, Clara Dey and Minerva Wertz, by her brother William Schwartz and by her parents, G. William and Mary D. Mager Schwartz. Surviving are a sister, Mary Jane Schwartz of Asbury Park and her niece, Lois Haase of Bella Vista, Arkansas. BETTY M. BRACE, 82, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Brace was a homemaker. Some of her happiest moments were taking her family to Disney World and her trips to Atlantic City. She was predeceased by her daughter, Judy Ryan and by her granddaughter Nikki Buonocore. Surviving is her loving husband of 60 years, Richard W. Brace, her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Guy Buonocore, her sister, Alma LaBarre, her brother, Robert Hagerman, her three grandchildren, Lori Dorick, Richie Ryan and Guy Buonocore, Jr., and her great grandchild Jessica Dorick. RAYMOND J. KUVER of AVON, formerly of Short Hills, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was the owner of Dunn Business Machines, Jersey City until retiring in 1986. Mr. Kuver served in the National Guard. He was a member of the South Orange Elks and the Belmar Fishing Club. Born in Jersey City, he summered in Avon before retiring there in 1993. Surviving are his wife Joan Guerdile Kuver, two daughters, Donna K. moving to Ocean Grove in 1949 then settling in Shark River Hills in 1956.

KATHLEEN J. DOWLING, 57, of Shark River Hills, NEPTUNE, died on Friday, April 13, 2007, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune after a struggle with cancer that began in 1982. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends in her home. She had a keen interest in politics and national affairs and gave generously of her time and money to support Democratic causes on the local, state and national levels. In 1999 and 2000 she served as a volunteer on the Bill Bradley for President Campaign in New Hampshire. She loved her home on the hill overlooking the river where each year she eagerly anticipated the first warm breezes of spring. Her smile, her sparkling personality and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Dowling was a 1967 graduate of Neptune High School. Born in Paterson, NJ, she was a lifelong resident of Neptune. Surviving are her husband, Michael W. Dowling, three sons, Joseph Davison of Jackson, Michael T. Dowling of Oceanside CA, currently serving as an officer with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines in Ramadi, Iraq, and his wife, Lauren Dowling and Christian Dowling of Neptune, a brother, Brian Walker and a sister Patricia Rothacker both of Rochester, NY, and two grandchildren, Joseph Davison of Harpers Ferry, WV and Michael Dowling of Oceanside, CA. A funeral service was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Thursday morning April 19 at 10:00 AM. IRENA S. HALEN, 83, of BRADLEY BEACH, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at the Bayside Manor, Keansburg. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Halen was a communicant of the Ascension Roman Catholic Church, Bradley Beach. Born in Newark, she had lived there before moving to Bradley Beach 25 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Halen in 1986. Surviving are three sons, Walter Halen of Yardley, PA, Ronald G. Halen of Cedar Grove, NJ and Steven A. Halen of Midland Park, NJ, a daughter, Janet M. SARA LIPPINCOTT, 93, of OCEAN GROVE died peacefully at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove, on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 after a short illness. Mrs. Lippincott was born in Woodbury N.J. and lived most of her life in Ocean Grove. She was a resident of the Francis Asbury Manor Methodist Home for many years. As an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1939, she served as a choir mother, Women's Society member and circle leader. She spent many years volunteering in local community organizations including more than 20 years in the PTA. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family has many happy memories of her life. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joan and Curtis Lippincott of Skillman; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Calvin Patterson of Marietta, Georgia; her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Ron Phillips of Little Egg Harbor; her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard Wolf of Starkville, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, Leah, Calvin, Carla, Bradford, Allan, Andy, Michael, Alex and Michael; and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta “Betty” Carter of Burlington and a brother, H. Edward Curtis of Summerfield, Florida. A celebratory service of her life was held at the Francis Asbury Manor, 70 Stockton Avenue, Ocean Grove on Saturday morning, June 2nd at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Methodist Fellowship Fund of Francis Asbury Manor.

BIAGIO JOSEPH FERRARA, 60, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at home. He had worked as a bookkeeper. SANFORD P. "TUCKY" DAVES, Jr., of Orlando, FL, formerly of ASBURY PARK, died on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in Florida. He had worked as a school bus driver for the Ocean Township Board of Education for more than thirty years until retiring in 1982. He was also a farmer. Born in Kirkwood Springs, KY, he had lived in Asbury Park before moving to Florida. He was predeceased in 1981 by his wife, Dorothy Bowne Daves. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra K. Daves of Orlando and Joann Silkowski of Tampa, a sister, Ida Mary Dormeier of Dixon, KY, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Saturday, May 12th at 11:00 AM with burial following at the Hamilton Cemetery, Neptune. EDNA STEWART KOPP, 91, of OCEAN GROVE died Wednesday, May 16, 2007. Mrs. Kopp was a long time resident of Ocean Grove, where she was active in civic affairs and had served as its Director of Tourism until she was 89 years of age. She had owned and operated the Ocean Plaza Hotel for many years. Mrs. Kopp was born and raised in South Orange, NJ and was a graduate of Maryland College for Women, where she had been President of the Student Council. She was predeceased by her husband George W. Kopp and her son, Robert Jeffrey Kopp. Surviving are her son, George, of Washington, DC and three grandchildren, Joshua, Robert and Melissa. A funeral service was held on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, with interment following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00.

MAE C. DETURK, 89, of OCEAN GROVE, formerly of Union, died Wednesday, May
23, 2007 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mae was born in Newark, June 21, 1917, to parents Harriet and James McCance. She married Jackson L. DeTurk on Feb. 12, 1944. She was employed by the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association until retiring in 1989. Prior to that she was the office manager for the United Methodist Northern New Jersey Conference. Mae was an active member
of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Union
United Methodist Church. Mae was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 1980 and her beloved son, Tommy in 2004. Surviving her are children, Lew & Kathi DeTurk of Raleigh, NC, Carol & Austin Alvarez of Gales Ferry, CT, Joanne DeTurk of Colonia, NJ, a dear friend, Richard Harper of Ocean Grove, seven grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at the Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ on Sat., June 2nd at 11 AM. A Memorial Service followed at 3 PM at the Francis Asbury Manor, 70 Stockton Ave., Ocean Grove.

JOSEPHINE MARIE INTROMASSO, 82, of TOMS RIVER, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She had worked as a waitress for twenty six years until retiring. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she had lived there, moving to Bayonne in 1971 then to Toms River in 2000. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Francis Intromasso, Sr. in 1998 and by her brothers, Joseph Muniz and Francis Joseph Muniz who died on May 26, 2007. Surviving are two sons, Christopher Intromasso of Toms River and Joseph F. Intromasso, Jr., of North Arlington, a daughter, Michele Intromasso-Busanic of Sayreville, two grandchildren, Paula Busanic and Gina Busanic and one great grandchild, Marcella Busanic. JOSEPH MACCANICO, 87, of SPRING LAKE, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Shorrock Gardens Care Center, Brick. He had worked as a leather cutter for McGregor Sportswear, United Sheep Lined and Robert Lewis until retiring. Mr. Maccanico was a veteran of WW II, serving in Europe. He extended his military service, serving as secretary to the Adjutant, stationed in Germany. A graduate of Neptune High School. Joe loved music, especially opera and symphony. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicola and Concetta Rici Maccanico and by his siblings, Susie Scannapieco, Nick Maccanico, Helen Chidnese and Americo Maccanico. Surviving are three sisters, Celeste DeCapua and her husband, Frank, of Neptune, Rose Norris of Brick Township and Viola Elgrim of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by his best friends, Al Biondi and Robert Zoino and his family and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, June 20th at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Avenue at Pine Street, Asbury Park with interment following at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Neptune. EDITH EDZENGA TRAVERS, 97, of Lambertville, formerly of OCEAN GROVE, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at her daughter's home in Lambertville. She had worked as a primary school teacher for Garfield School System, Garfield, NJ until retiring. Mrs. Travers was a member of the auxiliary to the VFW Post 1333, Asbury Park. Born in Garfield, she lived there before moving to Ocean Grove in 1976 then to Lambertville in 2002. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Edward Travers in 1977. Surviving are two daughters, Janet A. Travers of Bloomfield and Robin L. Horsnall of Lambertville and two grandchildren. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time.

STEPHEN WIELERT, 84, of NEPTUNE, died Friday, June 29, 2007, at the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center, Neptune. He was a mathematics teacher for the Manasquan Board of Education for 27 years until retiring in 1986. Mr. Wielert was a member of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers Association for more than 60 years. He received his bachelors degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and his masters degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Born in Baltimore, MD, he summered in Ocean Grove before moving there and then settled in Neptune in 1955. Surviving are his wife, Katherine A. Hoefeld Wielert, a son, Thomas Wielert of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and two daughters, Kathryn Wielert of Bloomfield and Nancy Wielert of Miami, FL. A funeral service was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Friday morning, July 6th at 11:00 with interment following at the Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. ROBERT D. EDELSON, 66, of Ocean Grove, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in his beloved Ocean Grove, New Jersey, following a lengthy struggle with cancer. A lifelong New Jersey resident, Robert was born in Neptune, grew up in Interlaken, and spent the majority of his adult life in Ocean Township and Ocean Grove. Robert received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College, Easton, PA where he was a brother of Phi Kappa Tau. He continued his education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he earned a Master’s degree. His professional career began with Autodynamics, where he rose to become their President. Later, he went into private management consulting, and most recently worked for Lucent Technologies. Robert spent 35 years as a volunteer with the American Heart Association. During this time he served in many roles including being a member and Chairman of the Board of the New Jersey Affiliate. He also helped to form the Heritage Affiliate, and served on their board. Robert was recognized for his contributions in 1993 with the Howard W. Dayton Award. His other interests outside of work were numerous and varied. As a founding member of the Citizens for Wesley Lake, and a member of the Wesley Lake Commission, he received the Swan Award acknowledging his role in establishing a plan for reviving and revitalizing the lake. Through the years, Robert also found time to pursue his creative interests through Boy Scout leadership, the Oakhurst First United Methodist Church Arts Council, and playing trumpet with the Shore Concert and Ocean Grove Summer bands.
Robert was pre-deceased by his father, Dr. Samuel Edelson, and his mother, Catherine Margaret Edelson. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Anne Eagen Edelson, and two sons, Lawrence S. Edelson and his wife, Paula Catherine, of Fairfield, VT and Christopher T. Edelson and his wife, Dr. Mary Kate O’Hare, of South Orange. He is also survived by a brother Paul Edelson and his wife, Marjorie, of Oakhurst, a sister, Eleanor Millar, of West Allenhurst, and a granddaughter, Mila Anne Edelson.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 17th at 10:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove with interment following at Monmouth Memorial Park Tinton Falls. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 7 - 9.

ALMA M. GRIFFIN, 88, of BRADLEY BEACH, died peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was a bank teller for the PNC Bank until retiring in 1984. Mrs. Griffin was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove, the church’s United Methodist Women, its Adult Fellowship and she volunteered with the food pantry. She loved ice cream, walking, family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis E. Griffin in 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Helen, and her husband, John Stocum, a granddaughter, Beverly, and her husband, Joshua Burns, a grandson, Jonathan Stocum, and his wife, Jessica, two great grandchildren, Joshua and Jack Burns, and two sisters, Carolyn Peters and Ruth Hilldale. JOHN E. ROBINSON, 78, of ASBURY PARK, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. He worked for Braddocks in Eatontown for 15 years. Mr. Robinson was president of the Ocean Grove Shuffleboard Association and an avid softball player, bowler and an ardent player for the Neptune Seniors Bridge Club. He was a 1946 graduate of Matawan High School and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove. Born in Newark, he lived in Matawan for 35 years before moving to Asbury Park. Surviving are his step-brother, Richard R. Robinson and his wife, Patricia, of Hackettstown, a niece, Cindy J. Robinson of Hackettstown and a nephew, Gary Robinson of San Francisco, CA. PHILOMENA GURRIERI, 85, of RED BANK, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Chapin Hill at Red Bank. She had worked as a housekeeper for the Holiday Inn Jetport, Elizabeth, until retiring. THOMAS FORSYTH, 82, of BRICK, entered into eternal life Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007. Born in Kearny, he lived in Pequannock and Ocean Grove before moving to Brick. After graduation from Kearny High School, he joined the Navy and served with the Seabees attached to the Marines in the Pacific Theater throughout World War II.
Upon returning home, he served an apprenticeship in the Carpenters Union, working as a journeyman and job supervisor for O'Malley Construction Co. before taking ownership of the company in 1966 and operating as a general contractor until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Forsyth was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Agnes Walsh, his brother, John, and his sister, Jeanne Corrigan, with one surviving brother, Ernest, and his wife, Rosemary. Surviving are his loving wife, Gladys Perry Forsyth, and five children, a son, Thomas, and his wife, Cindy, and their sons, Tom, Jason and Dennis; a son, Stephen, a daughter, Linda Forsyth Koroski, and her husband, Mace, and their sons, Daniel Hall, Christopher Hall, Eric Hall and Ethan Koroski, a twin daughter, Laura Forsyth Campbell, and her husband, Douglas, and their children, Jennifer, Ryan, Erin, Nicole and Emily; a twin daughter, Barbara Forsyth Victor, and her husband ,Fred, and their daughters, Ashley and Madison.
Tom was an avid fisherman and in later years liked to describe himself as a "Tough Old Scotsman," but we knew him as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and a man who gave to his country, his work and his family the full measure!
The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Ave., Ocean Grove. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar, 9th Avenue and E Street. Interment followed at the Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere. NORMAN H. "Pops" PACKARD, 83, of OCEAN GROVE, died Sunday, Sept. 30, at home. He had worked as a letter carrier for the Ocean Grove Post Office for more than 32 years until retiring. Mr. Packard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Ocean Grove. Mr. Packard was a member of the former Ocean Grove V.F.W. and an avid fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Anna Wagner Packard; three sons, Wayne S. of Maryland, and Brian L. and Norman C., both of Ocean Grove; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

DOROTHY J. LAKE, of Newark, Delaware, formerly of Ocean Grove died Sunday October 14, 2007. Born May 6, 1922 in Plymouth, PA she was the daughter of William and Jennie Rowe. She worked for many years at Fitkin Hospital (now Jersey Shore University Medical Center), beginning as a ward clerk, then manager of the gift shop. During her last 10 years there she served as Executive Housekeeper. Mrs. Lake also worked in the Hall of Records in Freehold, NJ for several years and before retiring managed the North End Hotel and The Sampler Inn Hotel in Ocean Grove. Mrs. Lake was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 345 of Plymouth, PA, and the Welsh organization, The Cambrian Club, and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove. Her husband, David J. Lake, former Chief of the Ocean Grove Police Department, died in 1971. She is survived by two daughters, Gail L. Jordan and her husband, Charles, of Wilmington, DE, Dottie Karavidas and her husband, Panagiotis, of Shark River Hills, NJ, four grandchildren, Jennifer Ford and David Jordan of Newark, DE; Melissa and George Karavidas of Shark River Hills, four great grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Ford, and Tyler and Ashley Jordan, all of Newark, DE, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Carey of Asbury Park, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends was held Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 5 to 9 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. There was a Christian Service at 8 PM. GRETE M. JAMES, 74, a lifelong resident of Ocean Grove, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at home. She was a Budget Analyst for Naval Weapons Station Earle, retiring nine years ago. Mrs. James was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove where she sang in the choir and was a member of the church circle. She was a member of the auditorium choir and the ladies auxiliary. Mrs. James volunteered at the St. Pauls Food Pantry, worked the elections at Eagle Fire House in Ocean Grove and worked for the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association in the Auditorium Box Office. She was a 1950 graduate of Neptune High School. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack James, in 1975, by her niece, Jamie Swolinzky, and by her brother, Albert Swolinzky. Surviving are her daughter, Tracey James, of Ocean Grove, her son, Jeffrey R. James, of Canton, CT, two grandchildren, her niece, Wendy Swolinzky, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Swolinzky, a grand niece and a grand nephew. Elizabeth taught kindergarten for 20 years for the Phillipsburg Board of Education. As a member of the Wesley Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, where Rev. Roby had served as the minister, Elizabeth was the superintendent of the Sunday school, a member of the United Methodist Women, and participated in the Adult Fellowship. Elizabeth and her beloved husband of 61 years, Roland, retired to Ocean Grove in 1983. While living in Ocean Grove, the Browns were members of St. Paul's Unit Methodist Church and participated in Adult Fellowship, delivered Meals on Wheels, hosted cottage prayer meetings and were very active with a group of wonderful Christian friends called the Primetimers. The Browns were active supporters of the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, with Roland as a loyal usher for 23 years, and Elizabeth a member of the Usher's Women's Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by a granddaughter, Miranda Elizabeth. Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Roland R. Brown; a devoted daughter, Shelley Brown Griffin; a son-in-law, Ron Griffin; her grandchildren, Brent and Kendall Griffin; her sisters, Mary Trotter of Knoxville, Tenn., Ellen Diehl of Lakewood and Evangeline Sweitzer of Easton, Pa; her brothers-in-law, Donald Sweitzer and Col. Raymond S. Brown, of San Antonio, Texas; and eleven nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Beal, who provided wonderful care over the last 24 years. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1st in the chapel at Francis Asbury Manor, 70 Stockton Avenue, Ocean Grove. LEE SCHNEIDER of Ocean Grove, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at home surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. She was a dance movement therapist at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Ms. Schneider also worked at the Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center for Women and was a counselor and manager for Planned Parenthood, both in Philadelphia. A 1984 graduate of Temple University with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, she was currently working on a Masters Degree in Dance Therapy. Lee’s enthusiasm for life was contagious, everyone who knew her was attracted to her energy. She had a wonderful caring way.
Lee was a very accomplished dancer, participating in Dances of Universal Peace and performing lithurgical dances. She founded the Ocean Grove Beautification Society, was a member of the Neptune Senior Center, and served as a facilitator for the Divorced, Separated and Widowed Group in Bradley Beach. Lee was an avid practitioner of aerobic activities as well as a student and leader of numerous yoga classes. She had a love of nature, art and the beach and most of all, her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Dionisio Cecilio Surviving are her daughter, Lauren Schneider, and her husband, Michael Dwyer, of Oakland, CA, her son, Dean Peter Schneider, and his wife, Susan Neustadter Schneider, of Margate, NJ, her mother, Concetta Rosa Cecilio, her brother, George Cecilio, of Blackwood, NJ, three grandchildren, Steven Richard Schneider, Dena Neustadter Giannini and Ultraviolet Schneider-Dwyer, and by her nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Visitation was on Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice, in her name would be appreciated.

EVELYN CLARK, 88, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the MediCenter, Neptune City. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Ocean Grove Women's Club and volunteered at the MediCenter in Neptune City for many years. Born in Elizabeth she had lived in Cedar Grove before moving to Ocean Grove 41 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband George R. Clark in 1982. Surviving are a niece, Patricia R. Gillen of Ocean Grove, a great niece Linda Gillen Preston and her husband, Greg, of Marietta, GA, a great nephew, Dennis J. Gillen of Bristol, PA and two great great nephews, Matthew D. Preston and Brian P. Preston. A blessing was given on Wednesday, November 21st at 1:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, with interment following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. MABEL L. WERNER, 94, of OCEAN GROVE died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Born in Newark, she had lived in Nutley and had summered in Ocean Grove until 1975 before moving here permanently in 1989. She had resided in the Francis Asbury Manor for the past 10 years. Mrs. Werner was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove; had volunteered for The Salvation Army and was an avid bridge player. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Albert H. Werner, in 1996, by her parents, William and Lillie LaRue, by her sister, Lillian M. LaRue, and by her brother-in-law, Edward R. Werner. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Lois M. Werner, her nieces, Heidi Santin and Patricia Noxon, and her nephews, David and Richard Werner. A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 24th at 10:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery, Newark. SAMUEL S. “Skip” SANTANIELLO, Jr., 65, of NEPTUNE, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He retired in 2007 from the Schroth Center, LADACIN Network, Ocean Township. He also worked at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune for 15 years and prior to that he was the owner of Skip’s Tours, Neptune. Mr. Santaniello was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park and a graduate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School and Neptune High School. Skip was an avid golfer and loved all sports. He had coached the Neptune Little League for 15 years and could always be found on the fence at the Scarlet Flyer Games. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel S. Sr., in 1987 and Cecelia Sullivan Santaniello in 1993 and by his brother, Michael Joseph Santaniello. He is survived by his loving sister Virginia A. Santaniello, his many cousins and friends and his pets, Stormy and Angel. Friends were invited to call from 4-8 PM on Friday at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, December 8th at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park, with entombment following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Neptune.

MORTIMER "Martin" REINHARD, 84, of ASBURY PARK, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at the Hospice Home, Burlington, NC. He had worked as a salesman for The Equitable Insurance Society until retiring. He was born in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Reinhard was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. EUNICE C. “Topsy” STOKES, 91, of WEST ALLENHURST, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the Imperial Care Center, Neptune. Mrs. Stokes was born on December 10, 1916 in Hopewell, VA and spent her youth in Elizabeth, NJ. She attended Batten High School in Elizabeth where she was president of both the National Honor Society and her Methodist Youth Group. She worked for Prudential Insurance Company in Newark where she met Howard K. Stokes. They married and spent over 50 years in Allenhurst. She spent most of her life renovating their home at 214 Allen Avenue. Mrs. Stokes was a member of the First United Methodist Church on Grand Avenue in Asbury Park and a member of the Allenhurst Beach Club. She was predeceased by her husband Howard K. Stokes in 1997. Surviving are her daughter, Carol S. Steinat of West Allenhurst, her three sons, H. Kemble Stokes, Jr., of Rockville, MD, Ronald C. Stokes of Jamison, PA and Philip N. Stokes of Plano, TX, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27th at 10:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue Ocean Grove, with interment following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday.
