DEATHS IN 2005


ALICE ERIKSON, 95, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, January 12, 2005, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She was a homemaker, a member of the Armonk (New York) United Methodist Church and its Women's Society and she was a life member of the Green Garden Club of Armonk. Born in Armonk, she had lived there all her life before moving to Ocean Grove 12 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, John B. Erikson in 1992. Surviving are a grand niece, Renee Bowman-Phillips of Purcellville, VA and a niece, Ruth Bowman of Deltona, FL. A graveside ceremony was held at the Kensico Cemetery, Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, N.Y. on Friday aft., January 14th at 1:00, with burial following. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Armonk United Methodist Church, 3 Bedford Road, Armonk, NY 10504 would be appreciated.

HENRY PARKER, 96, of ASBURY PARK, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at the MediCenter, Neptune City. He had worked as a clerk for Breyer's Ice Cream Co., Long Island City. N. Y. until retiring. Born in Germany, he had lived in Haledon until 1974 and Bradley Beach until 1996 before moving here. He was predeceased by his wife, Frieda Schoepki Parker in 1986. Surviving is a friend, Olga Woolsey of Wall Township. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time and there were no calling hours.

JOAN HAVILAND, 82, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Warwick, NY, she was a homemaker and was predeceased by her husband, Richard Haviland. Surviving are a niece Susan R. Welchman of Bethesda, MD and a nephew Russell T. Welchman of Monroe, NY. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time. There were no calling hours.

WAYNE KERNAN WILLEY, 55, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, formerly of New Jersey, was born July 15, 1949 in Elizabeth, NJ, the son of Jack and Dorothy Willey. He died Friday, February 4, 2005, at The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wayne was a Veteran of the United States Army. He received his bachelors degree in history from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ, and his masters degree in social work from Adelphi University, Long Island, NY. Wayne married in 1997 and lived in Toms River, NJ before moving to Oklahoma two years ago. He was an automotive enthusiast and an avid student of history. He was a member of the Rhema Bible Church in Oklahoma. Surviving are his wife Renee Powers Willey of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a son, Clinton Willey of Istanbul, Turkey, two brothers, Kyle Willey of Wall, NJ and Scott Willey of Satsumi, Florida, and his parents Jack and Dorothy Willey of Flagler Beach, Florida. Friends may call on Sunday February 13th from 3:00 -5:00 at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A Funeral Ceremony was held on Monday morn., Feb. 14th at 10:00 at the chapel of the Brig. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Provinceline Road, Arneytown, NJ, with interment following.

LAVINIA C. KING, 87, of OCEAN GROVE, died Monday February 7, 2005, at the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center., Neptune. She was a clerical worker and executive housekeeper at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune for many years until retiring in 1977. Mrs. King was a member of The Presbyterian Church on the Hill, Wayside and the Ocean Grove Homeowners Association. She was a member and past chief daughter of the Daughters of Scotia, Lady Ferguson Lodge #236, Spring Lake Heights. During World War II she was a member of the Women's Royal Naval Service (British Navy). Born in Gourock, Scotland, she had lived in Belleville before moving to Ocean Grove in 1986. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank D. King in 1981. Surviving is a friend Margaret Ruding of Ocean Grove. A Graveside service was held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, at a later date. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Sea Girt Animal Hospital c/o Dr. Marilyn Webber, Highway 35, Sea Girt, NJ 08750 would be appreciated.

GRACE HUNT STARK, 91, of OCEAN GROVE and PENNS GROVE, died Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was a cafeteria worker at the Penns Grove High School until retiring in 1985 and was a clerk for Strawbridge and Clothier for more than 40 years. Mrs. Stark was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Carneys Point, N. J. for 45 years. She was born in the Glen Ridge section of Newark, NJ and was predeceased in 1998 by her husband of 61 years, William Duncan Stark, Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia S. Proud of Pennsville, N. J., a son, William Duncan Stark, Jr. of Barbersville, KY and seven grandchildren including James I. Proud, of Ocean Grove and Penns Grove, her caretaker in her final days. A graveside ceremony will be held on Friday aft., February 25th at 2:00 at the Eglington-Woodbury Cemetery, Clarksboro, N.J. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Now and Forever Fund of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, 54 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove, N. J. 07756 would be appreciated.

ALBERT E. CATLEY, 83, of OCEAN GROVE, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He had worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service serving the Ocean Grove Post Office for more than 30 years until retiring in 1987. Mr. Catley was a member of the Washington Company of the Ocean Grove Fire Department for more than 65 years and currently served Ocean Grove as a fire commissioner, and a member of the Fireman’s Relief Board. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II. Born in Wilkes Barre, Penn., he was a lifelong resident of Ocean Grove. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Catley in 2004. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth A. Dellett Catley, a daughter, Pamela I. WANDA J. KANIA, age 82, entered into rest, on Saturday, Feb.19, 2005, in Ocean Grove, NJ. Wanda was born in Harrison, NJ and lived in North Jersey, working for Bell Telephone, before retiring to Ocean Grove sixteen years ago. She loved Ocean Grove and could often be found at the Ocean Grove Pavilion, or along the beachfront. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley C. Kania, in 1975. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Dombrowski of Marlboro, NJ and Cynthia Fox of Costa Mesa, CA., brothers Stanley Jankiewicz and Henry Jankins, grandchildren Adam, Garrett, Alexa, and Christopher Dombrowski, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. ADELINE M. "DOLLY" SANTANIELLO, 90, of Bradley Beach, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Neptune Rehababilitation & Care Center, Neptune. She was the owner of the Bradley Oil Company, Bradley Beach, until retiring in the early 1980's. Mrs. Santaniello was a lifelong resident of Bradley Beach. EILEEN ESTELLE EVERSON REDFIELD YOUNG, 85, of NEPTUNE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by her family. Eileen will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered. She was born in Ramsey and graduated from the Tenafly High School. Her work encompassed secretarial, administrative and office computer skills. For many years, Eileen bred and raised championship standard poodles. Her hobbies included sewing and knitting. Mrs. Young was particularly proud of her American heritage, which can be traced back for hundreds of years. She loved the beach, and was happiest when she could be by the ocean. She resided in Sebastian Villa in Neptune. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, John Benjamin and Wilhemina Stein Everson; a brother, John Karl Everson, and her husband, William Young, in 1988. Surviving are a son, William Ellery Redfield; a daughter-in-law, Mary Tilelli Redfield; two grandchildren, William E. Redfield and Mary Catharine Berger; nieces; nephews; stepchildren; stepgrandchildren, and many friends. At her request, there were no calling hours or funeral service. The family is planning a memorial service in the spring. RICHARD F. GIBBONS, 88, of OCEAN GROVE, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at his beloved home, Pioneer Cottage. Mr. Gibbons was a noted historian who with his wife Florence authored a book, The History of Ocean Grove, in 1939. For many years, he wrote Retrospect a column in the Ocean Grove Times. Mr. Gibbons, a lifelong resident of Ocean Grove; began his career as a reporter while still attending Neptune High School. Upon graduating in 1932, he began working for the Ocean Grove Times. He then moved on to the Asbury Park Press, where he rose through the ranks to become assistant city editor. While at the Press, be opened bureaus in Red Bank and Toms River. He also taught journalism in local high schools. In 1953 he changed careers and became the business manager for the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. His last full time job was as business manager for the Borough of Allenhurst from which he retired in 1983. A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for more than 65 years, he actively served on the music and finance committees. If there was a building campaign or a special fund-raising, he was usually involved, often writing all the publicity. He also helped his wife write a revised history of the church for a special anniversary. As a member of the Rotary Club of Asbury Park, he was program chairman and president during the 50s. He was a member of the board of directors of the Boys Club of Asbury Park, where he helped raise funds for their building campaign. Mr. Gibbons was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence; and his daughter, Faye Edwards. Surviving are his sister, Betty Tierney of Neptune; a son Richard and daughter-in-law Lois of Ocean Grove; and a daughter, Mary and son-in-law Russell Jacobus of Manchester. Other survivors include a son-in-law, Merv Edwards of Florida; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. A private viewing was held for the immediate family. A memorial funeral ceremony was held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Embury and New York Avenues, Ocean Grove on Saturday, May 21st at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Food Bank at St. Paul's Church would be appreciated.

RICHARD J. McGLONE, 62, of NEPTUNE, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was a driver and office worker for Monmouth County. Prior to that he worked at the Marine Base Terminal in Bayonne for twenty years. Mr. McGlone was a 1962 graduate of Asbury Park High School, where he played on the football team and a 1966 graduate of the College of Emporia in Kansas. He was a graduate of the Academy of Advanced Traffic, New York City. Born in Irvington, NJ, he had lived in Maplewood then Asbury Park before coming here thirty years ago. HARRY LARRISON, Jr., 79, of Ocean Grove, died peacefully on Sunday, May 29, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Born in Neptune, he resided in the Neptune area his entire life. He was a graduate of Neptune High School and owner of Larrison Coal & Fuel Oil, Inc. in Neptune City. He was a lifelong member of Eagle Hook & Ladder Fire Company of Ocean Grove and the Ocean Grove First Aid Squad. He was a member of the Ocean Grove Masonic Lodge #238 now the Wall Spring Lake Lodge #73, Brielle, BPOElks Lodge #128 of Asbury Park, the 200 Club of Monmouth County, the High Twelve Club of Freehold #542, the NJ Seniors Golf Association, the Affiliated Republican Club of Monmouth County, the Friends of the Monmouth County Library Association, the Monmouth County Federation of Republican Women, Inc. and the Deal Golf & Country Club. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and a dedicated and loving family man whose memory will be cherished.
Harry was most well known for his public service, which began at an early age in his home town of Neptune and continued for more than 40 years on county and state levels. He was the longest serving Freeholder in the state's history and was instrumental in the development of such Monmouth County institutions as an award winning county park system, the largest county library system in New Jersey and the county-owned Brookdale Community College where a building which bears his name was dedicated to him in October of 1998. He guided the development of the county owned landfill and the attainment of a AAA bond rating for the county.
He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Clark Larrison, in 1991; his daughter, Lynn, in l975; his son-in-law, Matthew Pantaleo, in 2004 and his twin brothers, Bradley and Robert Larrison. Surviving are two daughters, Judy Larrison of Pt. Pleasant and Carol Pantaleo of Marlboro, his two grandsons, Travis & Zak Pantaleo, of Marlboro, and his sister, Dolores Hendrickson, of Florida. DELORES BRAVO, 72, of FARMINGDALE, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at home. Mrs. Bravo was born in Perth Amboy, NJ. and was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Bravo in 1999. DAVID I. MITCHELL, 58, of OCEAN GROVE, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune after perfecting his final golf swing at Colonial Terrace. He worked as an art teacher for the Brick Township Board of Education until retiring in 2002 after 33 years of service. He was a lifeguard in Ocean Grove for 34 years, a profession he considered his purpose in life. Teaching was a hobby he pursued in order to spend his summers at a place he called "The Best Office in the World." Mr. Mitchell was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and the president of the church's board of trustees. He was the past president and an exempt member of the E. H. Stokes Fire Company and a past captain of the Ocean Grove First Aid Squad. He was active in the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol, and a member of both the US Lifesaving Association and ANSWER, the Area Network Shore Water Emergency Response. During the last few years he enjoyed a God-given talent as a guitarist with "Cannonball Red" and "The Front Porch Philharmonic Praise Band." Born in Philadelphia, PA, he lived in Ocean Grove for 36 years.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta Reaser Mitchell, three sons, Matthew D. Mitchell and his wife, Rachel, of Ocean Grove, Lt. Mark R. Mitchell, currently serving in the US Navy and his wife, Alison, of Silverdale, Washington and Luke J. Mitchell of Ocean Grove, and a brother, Louis W. Mitchell, Jr., of Jackson. He will be forever missed by his two grandchildren, Meredith and Ethan whom he loved dearly. Friends were invited to call on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:00 - 6:30 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New York & Embury Avenues, Ocean Grove. A funeral ceremony will follow at 7:00. JACK WILLS, 84, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday, June 24th at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Wills was a standout, all-around athlete at Asbury High School in the early 1940s, earning a total of 10 varsity letters in four sports for the Blue Bishops. Making the most of his wiry 5-foot 11-inch, 175-pound frame, Wills played quarterback on the football team, ran sprints and the quarter-mile in track, led the swim team by competing in the 100-yard freestyle and he freestyle relayed, and performed with the school's tumbling squad. During his high school career, Wills was quarterback of the football team that won a Central Jersey group championship, ran the anchor leg in the mile-relay team that captured first place in the Penn Relays, and placed second in the individual quarter-mile at the NJSIAA state championship meet. As a senior, he was named outstanding individual performer at the Long Branch Relay meet after anchoring three winning relay teams. A story in the Asbury Park Press noted that Wills also competed in the javelin throw until an errant toss speared the hat of his high school coach, James M. "Chippy" Coleman. His athletic accomplishments earned Wills a scholarship to Blair Academy, where he continued as a three-sport athlete. At Blair, he captured first place in the state prepschool quarter-mile championship, clocking a 5.12. He also took up the sport of boxing in his two years at Blair, and reached the semifinals of the Diamond Belt competition. World War II ended Wills' athletic career, and he served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force, completing a total of 170 missions as a navigator and flight radio operator on troop carriers in Africa and Europe. For his service, Wills received eight battle stars, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Service Cross and a Presidential Citation. While stationed in Great Britain, Jack adopted a Labrador Retriever he named UK and took him along on several battle missions over Germany and Africa. To ensure UKs safety, Jack fashioned a flak suit and parachute for the dog. Once back home, Jack became a breeder of labs and competed in numerous field trials. Jack later worked as an electronic technician with the US Army Signal Research and Development Laboratory at Fort Monmouth. He also became an avid ham radio operator (N2AF1).
Jack is survived by a large and loving family, that includes his wife of 63 years, Gail Horter Wills; his children, Bob of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Joy Matovsky of Brick and Shane of South Portland, Maine. Jack also leaves three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many dear friends and neighbors.
Friends were invited to call Saturday, June 25th from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Ave., Ocean Grove. A funeral ceremony followed at 2 p.m. Interment was private. EDNA G. CASE, 93, of Ocean Grove, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born and raised in Newark and had moved to Ocean Grove in 1974, residing most recently at the Francis Asbury Manor. She had worked for Bell Telephone Company and the Fireman’s Insurance Company, both in Newark before retiring. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1990. HELEN BLACKWOOD McCALL MALCHOW, 102, of NEPTUNE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Imperial Care Center, Neptune. Born Feb. 4, 1903, in Bradley Beach, she attended the Bradley Beach and Neptune schools and Monmouth Secretarial College. After marrying, she ran her husband's business. She lived at the Jersey Shore all her life and worked for more than 60 years for the Boro of Bradley Beach on the beachfront, which was her love. Helen performed exceptional volunteer and charity work her entire life. She was a member of the Order of Shepherds of Bethlehem, the Degree of Pocahontas, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bradley Beach Fire Department, as well as many other civic groups. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bradley Beach all her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph H. Malchow, in 1971; her parents, John J. and Florence McCall; her brother, Wallace McCall; sister, Hazel Matthews; and her two daughters, Janice Malchow and Florence May; as well as two grandchildren, Harry May and Linda May Taylor; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah A. May. Surviving are her grandsons, John May and his wife, Jackie, of Florida and Wayne May of Bradley Beach; seven great-grandchildren, Paul May, Randy May, Jessica May, Michael Taylor, Meredith Taylor, Mark Taylor and Joshua May; and many great-great-grandchildren. Friends were invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6th at The First United Methodist Church, 319 LaReine Ave., Bradley Beach. THELMA MOUNT RAINEAR, of TINTON FALLS, died Friday, July 8, 2005. A native of Monmouth County, she was born in Englishtown in 1914, the daughter of Samuel Hendrickson Mount and Ethel Cox Mount. She had served many years at various churches in New Jersey, Florida and Texas, as director of music and organist until she retired in 2003. Mrs. Rainear was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and Guilmont Organ School in New York City. She had served as dean of the Monmouth Chapter, American Guild of Organists, and was a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota, National Music Honorary Society. She had also been teacher and mentor to numerous budding pianists and organists wherever she lived. Music was her life. Mrs. Rainear was married for 55 years to the late Harold W. Rainear. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Beryl Mount, a niece and her husband, Mrs. Gaylord M. Schelleng and Charles E. Schelleng, all of Wall; and her great-niece, Miss Anne L. Schelleng of San Antonio, Texas. GOLDIE MEGILL FINCKE, 96, of LAKEWOOD, died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at home. Mrs. Fincke was a teacher at the Belmar Public School for more than twenty-six years, then served as superintendent for six years, before taking an early retirement in 1960. She was a lifelong member of the Bradley Beach United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fincke's service to her church included membership in the United Methodist Women and serving on the official board. She was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and the Montclair Normal School. She received her masters degree from Rutgers University where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Born in Bradley Beach, she lived there and then in West Allenhurst for 34 years before moving here 1988 where she and her husband were among the first residents of Harrogate. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Fincke, Jr., in 1999. Surviving are a sister, Gertrude L. Hutchins of Lakewood, a sister-in-law, Ethel Megill of Neptune City and many nieces and nephews. ELEANOR CLARKE EVANS GORDON, 98, of Raphine, Va., formerly of OCEAN GROVE, died Monday, Nov. 7, at the Blue Ridge Christian Home. Mrs. Gordon was born on May 5, 1907 in Philadelphia and was a daughter of the late Elisha Evans and Josephine Stroup Evans. Mrs. Gordon graduated from the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music and from the Philadelphia General Hospital as a registered nurse. She was predeceased by a son, Andrew Gordon. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her husband, the Rev. Andrew Culver Gordon; a son, the Rev. Robert Gordon of Lexington, Va; a daughter, Margaret Mongin of Roxbury, Conn.; nine grandchildren, Stephen, Craig, Philip, Joel, Joshua, Sarah, Margaret, Andrew and Thomas; and seven great grandchildren. CLARENCE KNIGHT, 90, of Marysville, Michigan and Ocean Grove, was promoted to glory on Sunday, November 27, 2005 after a short illness. Clarence was born on October 21, 1915 at the Salvation Army Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was a graduate of Michigan State University where he played football and received his degree in Police Administration. Clarence was married to Catherine (Bonnie) Knight for 57 years. He is survived by his son William, daughter-in-law Janice, and his two granddaughters, Emily and Chelsea, all of Ocean Grove. He had another son, Dr. Richard Knight of New Orleans, who preceded Clarence in death. Clarence was Security Chief for General Motors from 1941-1950. He also served a 4-year tour of duty during World War II as Lieutenant Colonel with the XIII Army Military Intelligence Staff. Clarence became the owner/operator of a Ben Franklin 5 & 10 Cent store in Marine City, MI, where he raised his family. He was then elected to the Board of Trustees for St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, MI. He served on the Board until he resigned to assume a full-time position as Coordinator of Law Enforcement Education at the college. Clarence was a life-long, third generation, member of the Salvation Army. He served as the Corps Sergeant Major and Bandsman. When asked to speak to his faith in God Clarence stated, “I love God better every day and try to serve him to the best of my ability. My life has been dedicated to his service in any way possible.” Clarence was buried in the family plot in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Asbury Park, NJ. A memorial service will be held during the 10:45 am service on Sunday, December 18 at the Asbury Park Citadel.

Later he was a stockroom supervisor for Central Jersey Bank, Freehold, NJ for twelve years until retiring in 1982. Mr. Dutkowski was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Neptune Senior Citizens and a communicant of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park. He attended South River High School and then graduated from Bayonne Senior High School in 1934. Born in Bayonne, he lived there and in South River before moving here many years ago. He was predeceased by his first wife Regina Wyszynski Dutkowski in 1946 and by his second wife, Dorothy Borden Dutkowski in 1996. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Saturday morn. December 3rd at 9:30 AM with burial following at the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N. J. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. RONALD B. KNUST, 72, of Ocean Grove, died Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a courageous battle, surrounded by his family. He was born in Jersey City, NJ and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he served as an engineering officer aboard the newly commissioned aircraft carrier, Saratoga. He had a distinguished career of 32 years at Combustion Engineering, in Windsor, CT, retiring as vice president of the Power Systems Division. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Bradley Beach, where he served with great dedication as treasurer, leader of the mens group and stewardship and Lector. He was a past member of the Auditorium Ushers Association in Ocean Grove and was also a Free and Accepted Mason, belonging to Hiram Lodge. He was a strong man of great dignity, devoted to his family, his church, his friends and his job. After living in Simsbury, CT for over thirty years, he and his wife retired to Ocean Grove. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Joan Engle Knust, his children, Kim, Robert, Andrew and his wife, Janet, two beloved grandchildren, Wyatt and Amelia and his brother, Robert. Friends were invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday December 2 at St. James Episcopal Church, 605 Fourth Avenue, Bradley Beach. A funeral ceremony was held on Saturday morn. December 3rd at 11:00 at the church, with burial following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to either the Endowment Fund of St. James Episcopal Church, or to the Now and Forever Fund, of the OGCMA, 54 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove, N. J. 07756 would be appreciated.

HOWARD N. BOILEAU, 91, of Ocean Grove, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, PA, died after a brief illness, peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Mr. Boileau worked as a lumber salesman for the Blanchard Lumber Company for almost 50 years, retiring in 1978. He served in the US Army during WWII as a First Lieutenant in the 71st Infantry Division.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and was predeceased by his parents, Nathaniel B. and Charlotte Reb Boileau and by his brothers, Charles and Robert.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Margaret, a daughter, Coralie and her husband Edwin Cummings, a son George, a granddaughter, Erin Semple and her husband Steve, a grandson, Timothy Cummings and his wife Jennifer, his great grandchildren, Abigail, Cameron and Moira Semple, and his sister, Charlotte McDaid.
His love and humor will be greatly missed. Services were held privately. Only your prayers are requested.

ETHEL BRANDT, 91, of LAKEWOOD, died Monday, December 5, 2005, at the Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She had worked as a seamstress until retiring. Born in New Brunswick, N. J., she had lived in Highland Park before moving to Lakewood in 1993. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Schrader. Surviving are her friends at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation Center and Elder Life Management. A private burial will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery, Neptune. There were no calling hours.

LUCILLE A. WHRITNER, 91, widow of Albert Whritner and a long time resident of Dumont, NJ, died Monday, December 12, 2005 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was a resident of Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove. Before retiring she was a registered nurse at the Valley Nursing Home, Westwood. Mrs. Whritner is survived by two daughters, Gail and Janet, a son James, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

GILBERT J. STILES, 82 years young, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at home in Ocean Grove where he and his wife, Jean, have lived since 1980. Born in Newark, NJ, Mr. Stiles was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Stiles was a graduate of the NJ Institute of Technology with a Masters Degree in Engineering. He retired from AT&T - Bell Laboratories in 1984 where he had worked as an electrical engineer for more than forty-two years. Mr. Stiles holds two patents in electronics and worked on such projects as the development of the transistor, the Echo project, and Telstar. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers.
Mr. Stiles was a member of the Jersey Aero Club, serving as treasurer for more than 10 years. Gil and his wife, Jean, volunteered at the Ocean Grove food pantry for several years. They traveled all over the world in retirement. Mr. Stiles is survived by his wife, Jean, a son, Skip, of Freehold, NJ, two daughters, Dianne, of Adelphi, MD and Cindy of Perrineville, NJ, as well as three grandchildren Danielle Stiles, Rebeccah Stiles and Erika Stiles Damaré. Family and friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, on Saturday, December 17th from 2:00 to 3:45 PM. A brief funeral ceremony was held at 3:45 PM. REV. LEONARD HEINMETS, 81, of Ocean Grove, went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2005, at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. He had worked in construction until retiring. The Rev. Mr. Heinmets was a pastor for the Estonian Baptist Church, New York, NY and an usher with the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers Association. Born in Estonia on July 7, 1924, he also lived in Sweden, moved to the United States in 1955 and to Ocean Grove in 1978. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Heinmets in 2004. Surviving are his wife, Inez Johansson Heinmets, four sons, Jaan of Colorado Springs, CO, Toomas of Neenah, WI, David of Ocean Township and Daniel of Macungie, PA, two daughters, Eva Ekbom of Brookfield, WI, and Ann Trippett of White Plains, NY, a brother, three sisters and fourteen grandchildren. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Wednesday, December 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church, Third & Grand Avenues, Asbury Park on Thursday, morning, December 28, at 11:00 with a reception will following at the church. Interment will be in Melen Township Cemetery, Wallace, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Third & Grand Avenues, Asbury Park 07712.

LAURA H. SMOLLON-FRENCH, 45, of Laurel, MD, formerly of Ocean Grove,
died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Georgetown Medical Center, Washington, DC. She worked professionally in the fields of information, technology and finance, most recently, at the Provident Bank in Ocean Grove. Born in Brooklyn, NY she lived in Spring Lake, Belmar, and Breton Woods, and then in Ocean Grove since 1997 before moving to Maryland last September. Surviving are her husband, Fred A. French, her children, Briann, Arianna, Evan and Justin Schambach and her stepchildren, Katherine and Robert French. Also Surviving are her sisters and brothers, Clair Entwhistle of Wall, Christopher Smollon of Freehold, Beth Margeson of Ewing, and Matthew Smollon of Blairstown. A Memorial Ceremony will be held on Friday afternoon, December 30, 2005, at 2:00 at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Those who wish may send flowers, or please support a worthwhile charity or the United Way Fund, and consider becoming an organ donor.
