ALEXANDRA M. "Sandy" SMITH, 50, of LONG BRANCH, formerly of Ocean Grove, died January 9, 2002, at her residence. Miss Smith was a certified school teacher and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove. She was a graduate of the East Stroudsburg State College, Stroudsburg, Pa. Born in New York City, she had lived in West New York and Weehawken, N. J. until moving to Ocean Grove in 1960.
Surviving are a brother, Ian C. Smith of Middleboro, Mass. and a niece.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 13th at 3:00. JOHN W. BRENNAN, Sr., 82, of OCEAN GROVE, died January 13, 2002, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Neptune. He had been a purchasing agent for the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune for many years until retiring.
Mr. Brennan was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both Neptune. He was a graduate of Rider College, Trenton.
Born in East Orange, N. J., he had lived in Neptune most of his life and for the last year at Sunrise Assisted Living of Wall.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Coffey Brennan in 1967 and by his son, John W., Jr.
Surviving are two nephews, Ralph M. Hoffman, Jr. and his wife, Darlene of Freehold Township and Bruce J. Hoffman and his wife, Nancy of Neptune, a niece, Kathy Murphey of Plattsburgh, NY, eight great nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Wanda Cole of Ocean Grove.

JOSEPH "Kelly" PIZZULLI, 79, of FREEHOLD, died January 17, 2002 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the owner of Garden State Cleaners, Long Branch until retiring. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the south Pacific Theater during World War II. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Neptune before moving here in 1997.
He was predeceased by a son, Louis D. Pizzulli in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Sara "Dolly" Sammarco Pizzulli, a daughter, Donna R. Pizzulli and her husband J.R. Emmanuelli of Freehold, a devoted grand daughter Dania Emmanuelli, and a sister, Angie Calabrese of Long Branch.
The Family received visitors at the home of Donna Pizzulli on Friday evening and on Saturday after the funeral ceremony. A Funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Avenue at Pine Street, Asbury Park on Saturday morning, January 19th at 10:00. MICHAEL MARASHEVICH, 86, of OCEAN GROVE, died January 19, 2002, at his residence. He had worked as a military transporter for the United States Navy for many years until retiring. He was a veteran of WW II. He was born in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Surviving are his wife, the former Maria Santini and a son, Michael J. of Ocean Grove.

HAROLD CAREY, 86, of ASBURY PARK, died January 31, 2002, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Neptune. He had worked as a routeman for the Hessler Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co.and more recently for the Mary MacIntosh Dry Cleaning Company, Wilkes Barre, PA for more than forty one years until retiring in 1972.
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, he had lived there before coming here two years ago.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Rowe, two daughters, Salli C. Wolcott of Toms River and Joyce Mazur of Brick Township and four grandchildren.

JOHN W. CARR, 82, of LONG BRANCH, died January 31, 2002 at The Center for Hospice Care at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He had worked as a manager for the Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, for more than thirty-seven years until retiring in 1975. He was a captain in the Army Corps of Engineers, serving at Fort Belvoir, VA and in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
Mr. Carr was a member of the American Legion, Gibralter Post #326 and the Prudential Life Insurance Veterans' Association. Born in Newark he had lived in Ocean Grove before moving to Long Branch in 1961.
He was predeceased by his parents Roy Demarest Carr and Helen E. Wilcox Carr and by his first wife Ruth Curtis Rogers.
Surviving is his wife Vivian Alling Carr.

ELIZABETH ROSE CLELAND, 75, of OCEAN GROVE, died February 3, 2002, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She had worked as a customer service representative for Merrill Lynch in New York City for more than twenty years until retiring in 1985. Mrs. Cleland was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove, the Daughters of the Nile and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Flushing, NY.
Born in Washington Heights, N. Y., she had lived in Jersey City most of her life, then Flushing, N. Y. for fifteen years before retiring to Ocean Grove in 1990.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace M. Cleland in 1984.
Surviving are three sons, Martin Scharloo of Middlesex, Richard Scharloo of Las Vegas and Peter Scharloo of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, a daughter, Carolyn Valdes of Bayonne, two brothers, Thomas Henry of Bernardsville and David Henry of Leonia, a step daughter Marjorie Cleland of Flushing, NY, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Thursday morning, February 7th at 11:00. Interment followed at the Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N. Y., where she was buried with her beloved husband. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9. VICTOR LATERZA, 81, of OCEAN GROVE, died February 5, 2002, at the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center, Neptune. He had worked as a driver for Stat Ambulance Service, Neptune City for many years until retiring in 1990 and as a driver for A1 Ambulance Company. He was a member of the Garden State Model Boat Club.
Born in Freehold, he had lived in Asbury Park before coming here twenty one years ago.
Surviving are his wife, the former Peggy Kellam, a stepsister, Elaine Scobey and her husband Russell of Pompano, Florida and a nephew, Brad Scobey. SHELDON CHEW, 89, of OCEAN GROVE, died February 8, 2002, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Neptune. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he had lived in Long Branch until 1979 before coming here several years ago.

JOSEPHINE "Jody" STAGG, 96, of WALL, formerly of Ocean Grove, died February 11, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She had worked as a secretary for the Multiple Listing Service, Eatontown. Mrs. Stagg was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and had been a long time Monmouth County Republican Committee Woman from Ocean Grove.
Born in Clifton, N. J., she had lived in Ocean Grove more than 45 years before coming here eight years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Westervelt C. Stagg in 1981 and a daughter, Barbara "Sis" Stagg in 2000. Mrs. Stagg was a Gold Star Mother. Her son Wes was killed during the Korean War in June of 1952. She sold the most Poppies in Ocean Grove for many years and knitted sweaters and blankets for the men in veteran's homes. Mrs. Stagg received the gold pen from Gov. James Florio after he signed the New Jersey Korean War Day bill.
Surviving are a son, Peter W. Stagg and his wife, Kathleen of Wall, a daughter, Patricia Smith of Deltona, Fla. and a stepdaughter, Phyllis Petersen of Calif., a brother, Edward Aron of Detroit, two grandchildren, Erik and Kimberly Stagg of Wall, eight other grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

MARION FLORENCE CHABRA, 81, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 1, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Chabra had worked as a secretary for the Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, until retiring. She was the Vice President of the Republican Party of Roselle and the GOP representative for major elections while living in Roselle and was a recipient of the Rosie The Riveter Award. For the past nine years she was a volunteer with the Neptune Township Senior Citizens' Association.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Roselle before moving here in 1975.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Chabra in 1970. Surviving are a son, John G. Chabra of Ocean Grove, a grandson, John A. Chabra of Linden and a granddaughter Brenda S. Figueiredo and her husband Art of Linden, and a great granddaughter Alyssa.

FLORENCE LILLIAN ROUGHGARDEN of Rocky Mount, N. C., formerly of OCEAN GROVE, died suddenly on March 12, 2002, at the North Bay Hospital while vacationing in New Port Richey, Fla.
She was the first woman in New Jersey to pass the state boards to become a registered Electro-Encephlogram Technician and worked many years in that profession retiring from the Jersey Shore Medical Center in 1983.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., she grew up in Newark. While residents of Short Hills, she and her first husband were instrumental in the establishment of the first United Cerebral Palsy Center which opened in Belleville in the 1950's. In the late 70's and 80's, she and her second husband, Len who died in January 1985, owned and operated the House by the Sea Hotel in Ocean Grove. During her eleven years as a resident of Tall Pines at River Ridge, New Port Richey, Fla, she worked as a volunteer in the Cancer Hospice in that area.
She lived in Point Pleasant Beach and Rocky Mount, NC during the past five years.
Mrs. Roughgarden was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head and St. James Church in New Port Richey.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Tomlinson of Point Pleasant Beach, N. J., Carol Fitzgerald of Brick and Judy Crox of Rocky Mount, NC, a brother, Robert Lapierre of Severn Maryland, her first husband, Matthew W. Grum of Ocean Grove, a stepson, Bruce Roughgarden of Naples, Fla., four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 751 Main Street, Bay Head on Tues. morn., March 19th at 9:30. LLOYD CHARLES RASMUSSEN, 80, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 15, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Med. Center, Neptune. He had worked as an artist draftsman for American District Telegraph (ADT), New York, until retiring in 1983. Mr. Rasmussen was a member of the Belmar First United Methodist Church, the E. H. Stokes Fire Company, the Ocean Grove Fire Police, the Ocean Grove Citizen's Patrol, the Ocean Grove Fishing Club and the Neptune Senior Citizens' Association. He had volunteered time at the Neptune Police Headquarters and he portrayed Santa Claus for many years at the Ocean Grove Christmas Eve park celebration. He served in WWII with the U. S. Marine Corps 4th Division and was in the fifth wave that stormed the beaches on Iwo Jima. After the war he served in the USMC Reserve.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Jersey City before coming here twenty five years ago.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, the former Doris Flint in 2001.
Surviving are a daughter, Kris Fulton and her husband, David of Ocean Grove, a brother, Donald Rasmussen of Upper Montclair, a granddaughter, Laurie Beth Columbo and her husband Stephen of Neptune, a grandson, Todd David Fulton of Ocean Grove and a greatgrandson Tyler James Columbo.

ISABEL FRANCIS TAYLOR, 98, of Lakewood, formerly of WANAMASSA, died March 16, 2002, at her residence. She had worked as an elementary school teacher for the Board of Education, Jersey City, N. J. until 1942. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church on the Hill, Wayside and its United Presbyterian Women.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Wanamass before coming here seven years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Taylor in 1987.
Surviving are two nieces, Zada C. Aldarelli of Brick and Caryl Francis Wittenburg of Calif. and many other nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

JUNE M. LETSCHE, 83, of Canterbury Tower, TAMPA, Fla., formerly of Manasquan, died March 22, 2002 in Tampa. She had worked as a high school teacher in Asbury Park, N. J. for more than twenty-nine years until retiring in 1970. Mrs. Letsche was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church, Manasquan and the Monmouth County Retired Educators Association.
Born in Ocean Grove, N. J., she had lived in Manasquan before coming here more than fifteen years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hans Letsche, Sr. in 1987.
Surviving are two stepsons, Hans Letsche, Jr. and Carl Letsche, both of Neptune, two nephews, K. Lee Mount of Hazleton, Pa., and Richard Mount of Lebanon, Mo. and a cousin, Olivia McMullen of Tampa.

JAMES J. PENTZ, 54, of SHARK RIVER HILLS - NEPTUNE, died March 23, 2002, at home.
A native of New Jersey, Jim was Born in Roselle, N. J., and relocated with his family to Point Pleasant Beach in 1957. He was graduated from Pt. Pleasant Beach High School in 1965 after which he attended The College of Emporia in Kansas. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and served for four years on the aircraft carrier Ranger off the coast of Vietnam. In 1983 he moved to Shark River Hills.
Jim entered real estate in 1975 working as an associate at the Bronson and Blair Agency where he established his specialization in marketing real estate in Ocean Grove. He joined Avon Realty in 1981 and then established his office at the Broadway Gates of Ocean Grove in 1989. In 1996 he found his true "home" at 78 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, the current site of James J. Pentz, Realtors. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Monmouth County Board of Realtors.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Karen and their nine year old son, Joseph, who was named after Jim's father who died in 1973. Also surviving are his mother, Janice of Pt. Pleasant Beach, a sister, Donna Pentz and niece, Corey, both of Jacksonville, Fla., cousins Carolyn Bissey, Thomas Pentz, June Nace and Wendy Giarratana and dear aunts, an uncle, cousins, a niece and a nephew. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Claire Hennig of Ocean Grove, his brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Hennig and his wife, Pam of Fenton, Michigan and his closest and dear friend, Richard W. Hogan of Neptune.
Jim left an indelible mark on those who knew and loved him. He was truly a "gentle" man.

MARIAN E. ROGERS, 89, of Cornwall, Pa., formerly of COLONIAL TERRACE, died March 23, 2002, in Cornwall.
Mrs. Rogers was a fifty-seven year member of the Ballard United Methodist Church, Asbury Park and more recently, the Cornwall United Methodist Church.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she had lived in Colonial Terrace - Ocean Twp. since 1948 before coming here nine years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Everett A. Rogers in 1974.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edna Ward of Doylestown, Pa., several cousins, three grandchildren, William A. Rogers, Jr., of Neptune, Mary E. Rogers Hoerner of Oakhurst and Sherri B. Markowitz of Faison, North Carolina, three greatgrandchildren, Toni Marie Rogers, Oakhurst, Maria Elizabeth Rogers of Deal and William A. DOROTHEA A. WARD, 85, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 26, 2002.
She had worked as a secretary at the YMCA, Asbury Park. Mrs. Ward was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and its Frances Stern Circle. She had attended the United Methodist Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She was a member of the Jersey Shore Women's Club, the Jersey Shore Hospital Federation auxilliary, the American Heart Association and the Ocean Grove Historical Society auxilliary.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Ocean Grove most of her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, A. LeRoy Ward in 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Lester L. of Eclipse, Va. and Chief James A. Ward of Neptune, two daughters, Bette Sue Solakian of Wall and Jacquelyn Paczkowski of Spring Lake, a sister, Bette Meeks of West Belmar, ten grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

FLORENCE LAWROW, 86, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 31, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
Mrs. Lawrow was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and its United Methodist Women. She was formerly active at the Neptune Senior Citizens Center. Born in Kearny, N. J., she had lived in Maplewood before coming here thirty two years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Lawrow in 1975.

MURIEL S. EBERHARDT, 91, of NEPTUNE, died April 3, 2002, at the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center, Neptune. Mrs. Eberhardt was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Bradley Beach and its Altar Guild.
Born in Lakewood, she had lived in Fair Haven for more than 35 years. She retired in Stuart, Fla., and Ocean Grove. She later lived in Spring Lake Heights before coming here two years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederic H. Eberhardt in 1994. Surviving are a son, Richard Eberhardt of Middletown, a daughter, Linda Nesbitt of St. Augustine, Fla., four grandchildren, Barbara Kelly of Oceanport, Alison Harder of Minneapolis, MN, Scott Eberhardt of San Francisco and Gordon Eberhardt of Middletown and a great granddaughter, Macy Harder.

DEANNA M. SCHERRER, 61, of LONG BRANCH, died May 12, 2002, at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was secretary of the Tennent Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

GOLDIE G. SIMON, 87, of BRADLEY BEACH formerly of Edison, died Saturday, July 29, 2002 at home. With her late husband, Frank, she had owned Simon's Sweet Shop, Edison, then Simon's Apartments in Miami, Fla., and later, Simon's Fruit and Vegetables, Edison. Mrs. Simon was a member of the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church, New Brunswick and the Ladies Noodle Club. She was a great cook and baker and she and her husband loved to travel with friends. Born in New Brunswick, she was a lifelong resident of Edison before coming here in March. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 55 years and by a sister Mary Ogorzalek. Surviving are a son, Frank D. Simon and his wife, Adele, of Edison, a daughter, Barbara L. Toth and her husband, Charles, of Bradley Beach, a sister, Delores "Dee" Gulotta of Edison, five grandchildren, Christopher, Susan, and Robert Toth all of Bradley Beach, and Jennifer and Frank D. STEWART RUSHTON, 84, of Tinton Falls, formerly of INTERLAKEN, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was formerly the owner of Rushton's Inc., Asbury Park, an office equipment and supplies business founded by his father, Alfred, in the early 1900's. Mr. Rushton retired in 1988. He was an avid fly fisherman and was the owner of Grants Camps, Rangeley, Maine for many years.
Mr. Rushton was a member of the Wayside Gun Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1333, Asbury Park and the Presbyterian Church on The Hill, Wayside, where he had served as a Deacon. He was a graduate of the Asbury Park High School and Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WW II, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Born in Asbury Park, he was a life long resident of Interlaken before moving to Tinton Falls. He was predeceased by a son, Alfred Turk Rushton. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Turk Rushton, a son, Dr. Stewart Rushton, Jr., of Hope, Arkansas, a daughter, Penny Vaccaro of Interlaken, and five grandchildren. GERALD D. PROFITA, 73, of BRADLEY BEACH and DELRAY BEACH, FL, died Thursday, at home in New Jersey. He was the president of Benjamin F. Shaw Construction Company, Wilmington, DE until retiring in 1985. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of WW II. TREVOR JAMES BARRINGTON "TJ" STOCKDALE, 21, of OCEAN GROVE, died October 24, 2002, on Long Key, Florida as the result of an automobile accident. Born in Neptune, a life long resident of Ocean Grove, TJ was a senior at Flagler College, St. Augustine, Florida. TJ was a graduate of Neptune High School where he earned varsity letters in wrestling and tennis. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and the U. S. Lifesaving Association. He had recently served as a Lieutenant of the Ocean Grove Lifeguard Squad and was active in local lifeguard competitions. He was a member of the OG Surfing Association, an avid world-traveled surfer and a long time employee of Easternlines Surf Shop, Belmar, NJ.
Surviving are his parents, Daniel R. and Wendy Child Stockdale of Ocean Grove, a sister, Casie Allyson Stockdale of Ocean Grove and Fairbanks, Alaska, his maternal grandmother, Anne B. Child of Avon, eight aunts and uncles, Thomas and Kenneth Child and Barbara Pigman of Avon, Richard Child of Belmar, Holly Hannum of North East, Md., Douglas Child of Berwyn, Pa., Linda Warren of Pegosa Springs, Colo. and Kerry Duke of Neptune and many cousins and loving friends. TJ lived life to the fullest and brought much joy to everyone around him. He will be missed by all.

IRENE M. LOWRY, 89, of OCEAN GROVE, died November 1, 2002, at her residence, the Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove. She had been the assistant secretary of the Board of Education, North Arlington, N. J. for many years until retiring. Mrs. Lowry was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove. She was an outstanding Christian and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Born in McAdoo, Pa., she had lived in North Arlington before coming here twenty years ago. She had lived at Francis Asbury Manor for the last five years. Mrs. Lowry was predeceased by her husband, James Kenneth Lowry in 1969.
Surviving are her twin daughters, Joan, and her husband, Frank Kartan of River Vale and Joyce Abrams of Ocean Grove, a brother, Earl, and his wife, Marie, Carter of Ocean Grove, four grandchildren, Kimberly and Michael Cuffe of Hillsdale, Tammy and Troy Hamilton of Chatham, Tracy and Max Winkler of Longmeadow, Mass. and Donald and Kristen Kartan of Eatontown and five greatgrandchildren.

LYNNE E. WOLF, 58, of South Pasadena, Fla., a native of NEPTUNE, died Friday, November 8, 2002 at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Fla. Born in Neptune, she lived there and in Bradley Beach before moving to Florida in 1989.
She was predeceased by a son, James Walter Wolf; a brother, John R. Saragusa; and her parents, James S. and Elizabeth Trimble Saragusa. Surviving are her husband, John A. Wolf Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John A. Wolf Jr. and Maria, and James J. and Brenda, all of Eatontown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Mesler of South Pasadena, and Jennifer and Adam Nucci of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, James W. and Marie A. Saragusa of Bradley Beach, Robert J. and Lillian Saragusa of Toms River, and Sally Saragusa of Neptune; and seven grandchildren, Megan and A.J. Mesler, Britney and John Michael Wolf, and Jimmy, Amanda and Vincent Wolf.

ALICE HAINES KRESGE, a life-long resident of OCEAN GROVE, died Thursday morning, November 14, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Med. Center, Neptune from complications following arterial surgery. She was the wife of William T. Kresge, retired editor and publisher of The Ocean Grove and Neptune Times.
Mrs. Kresge was the daughter of George R. and Sarah Stackhouse Haines and was born in Medford, N. J. in the Haines family homestead, erected in 1690. Her family sold their peach farms and in the early 1920's purchased the Majestic Hotel on the Ocean Grove oceanfront. Following the death of their parents, Alice and her sister, the late Mrs. Edith Hankins, operated the hotel until selling the property in the 1960's.
Mrs. Kresge was a birthright member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) in Medford and was an alumna of the Moorestown Friends School and Guilford College, Guilford, NC. Alice and Bill were married 60 years ago in St. Paul's Church where she was a faithful attendant and an active member of its United Methodist Women and the Anne Forrester Circle. She was also a member of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers Auxiliary, a volunteer for the Jersey Shore Arts Center and other community service groups. For a number of years, she was a volunteer in the Well-Baby Clinics of the Monmouth County Organization for Social Service (MCOSS).
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, W. Theodore K. Kresge, Jr. and Margaret Feild Kresge and two grandchildren, Ted and Margaret Kresge, all of Atlanta, Ga.,

BRUCE R. HEWITSON, 68, of NEPTUNE, died November 21, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Med. Center, Neptune. He had worked as a county correction officer for County of Monmouth, Freehold, N. J. for more than thirty one years until retiring in 1993. Mr. Hewitson served in the U. S. Army between 1957 and 1959. He was a member of the Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, Avon and had served as a trustee since 1997. He was a life member of the Police Benevolent Association, Correction Officer's Local 240, Monmouth County. Born in Neptune, N. J., he had lived in Manalapan eight years before returning here seventeen years ago. Surviving are cousins, Edith Deane of Neptune and George, David and Edward Deane, Donna Deane and Lisa Rapoli, a nephew, Scott and his wife, Rosemarie Hewitson and a Goddaughter, Emily, other nieces and nephews and his former wife, Carol A. M. Hogan of Florida.

ELIZABETH MARY BOYLE NYLEN of OCEAN GROVE, died November 22, 2002, at her residence. She had worked as a designer and technical artist for Famous Features, New York, N. Y. until retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Nylen pursued a second career in oil paintings and jewelry making after her retirement. Mrs. Nylen studied fashion designing at Cooper Union and textile designing at Columbia University. She was a member of the Neptune Township Senior Citizens Association.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Queens, New York and Jersey City before coming here thirty five years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry G. Nylen in 1983. Surviving are two sisters, Katherine E. Kingsley of Park Ridge, N. J. and Frances Richards of Neptune City, and a niece, Kathe Whitney of Closter, N. J.

EMMA CAROLINE SCHMID, 95, of OCEAN GROVE, died November 26, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Med. Center, Neptune. She had worked as a chef for many years until retiring.
Born in Germany, she had lived in Maplewood, then Monmouth Beach before coming here in 1991.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Schmid in 1963. Surviving are a daughter, Ottilie Schmid-Sanders of Monroe Twp., a son, Fredrick Schmid, two grandsons Richard F. and Matthew C. Sanders, both of Wall Township and seven greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Schmid was predeceased by a grandson Paul in 1968.

IRENE DORA SIMKEVICH, 59, of OCEAN GROVE, died December 8, 2002, at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She had worked as a clerk at Fort Monmouth for more than fifteen years and had been recognized as Employee of the Month.
Born in Providence, RI, she had lived there and in Monmouth Beach before coming here fifteen years ago.
