A Note to Parents and Grandparents from your
Children and Teens.
I know that this is an especially hard time for you but don’t forget that I, too, am grieving.
Please respect me by including me with the family...don’t think that I’m too young to be included.
Please let me know what is happening and tell me what you expect of me during the viewing and funeral ceremony and during hard times after the funeral.
Please answer my questions honestly and forthrightly...I probably understand more than you think I do.
Please give me emotional support and allow me to take part in the grieving processes and in the ceremonies that you choose.
If I want to, allow me to take a favorite toy to the funeral home when we go there. Allow me to invite my friends to the funeral home at appropriate times too.
Please understand that it’s okay for me to cry and that I know it’s okay for you to cry too.
Please allow me my quiet times and safe places when I need them.
Please understand that my feelings and ideas are important and that I can make some choices and decisions for myself.
Above all...please listen to me
...and give me a hug when I need one.
